SUPPLEMENTAL COVERAGE DURING TRAINING
From the beginning of their training program until their final year, all full time residents and fellows may obtain a low base policy that would increase the amount of income they would receive during an unexpected accident or illness.
This individual policy is offered without having to complete any medical tests, labs or questionnaires and will be issued regardless of any current or previous medical history.
Any resident or fellow who chooses to secure this additional protection during their training program will be still be eligible for the “Guaranteed Issue” coverage offered at time of graduation.

- $1,500/month tax free benefit
- Provided after 90 days of total or partial disability
- Benefits provided until Age 67 or until insured no longer satisfies definitions of disability
- Own Occupation protection with medical specialty wording for the length of the benefit period
- Includes protection for long-term partial income loss claims
- Future Increase Rider – Allows the purchase of additional coverage without evidence of medical insurability (only financial evidence is required)
- Permanent 20% gender neutral discount
- Mental/Nervous/Drug/Alcohol - lifetime maximum of 24 months unless hospital confined
- Cost of living benefit rider (COLA) – 3%
- Pre-Existing Condition Limitation of 3/12
- Non Disabling Injury Benefit: If you suffer an injury requiring medical treatment or the repair to natural teeth, we will pay the expense, not to exceed the lesser of 50% of the base monthly benefit or $3,000.
- Survivor Benefit: If you die while monthly benefits are being paid, an additional 3 months of base monthly benefit will be paid to your designated beneficiary or estate
- COBRA Premium Benefit – If you become unemployed due to a disability, COBRA premiums paid by you will be reimbursed up to a monthly maximum of $1.000 for up to 18 months
